Barrier-Free Access
The State Guest Houses provide the following information about barrier-free access for visitors during public openings of the facilities.
To begin
- Should you encounter any difficulties during your visit to the State Guest Houses, please feel free to reach out to our staff.
Regarding Guide Dogs (Seeing eye dogs, service dogs, and hearing assistance dogs)
- Visitors may enter the facilities with guide dogs (seeing eye dogs, service dogs, and hearing assistance dogs).
Regarding Parking
- The State Guest House, Akasaka Palace, does not have a parking or bicycle lot.
Visitors Who Use Wheelchairs
- Should you have difficulty in visiting the State Guest House via public transportation, or in embarking/disembarking from a car in the vicinity of the State Guest House, please make an inquiry with our administrative division (Feedback).
- If you wish to rent a wheelchair, please inquire at reception. *The number of wheelchairs available is limited.
- Visitors may enter the State Guest House, Akasaka Palace in wheelchairs.
- An elevator is available for visitors in wheelchairs to move between floors within the building. Please ask a nearby staff member if you need to use the elevator.
- If you are making your visit together with someone other than an assistant, please inform the staff, so that you can move about the facility together.
- The front garden is tiled in stone, and the main garden is covered with gravel. Please use caution when moving through these areas in a wheelchair. In the unlikely event that a visitor becomes unable to move, please ask nearby staff for assistance.
- The Japanese Style Annex is too narrow to allow for wheelchair access.
Regarding Restroom Locations
- Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are available in administrative areas.
- A multi-purpose restroom is available near the entrance to the main building.
- Ostomate-friendly toilets are not available. One is available near the State Guest House, Akasaka Palace, in the Akasaka Palace Tourist Lounge.
Visitors with Small Children
- A diaper-changing seat is availale in the multi-purpose restroom near the entrance to the main building.
- Please inquire with nearby staff if you need to breastfeed. There is a nursing room in the Akasaka Palace Tourist Lounge that visitors are welcome to make use of as well.
- Please leave baby strollers at the security check for personal effects at the entrance to the main building.
First-Aid Room
- Should you become ill, please inform the staff. Visitors may use the first-aid room in the administrative area.
AED (automated external defibrillator)
- Available both within the main building and in the administrative area's first-aid room. In the event of an emergency, please contact nearby staff.
Other
- Visitors may use canes or walkers within the main building. In the Japanese Style Annex, only canes are allowed. In order to preserve the facilities, please bring a cane with a rubber end, or one that does not have a sharp end.
- Please inform staff if you'd like to communicate by writing.

Cautionary Notes
- ● In the event of receiving distinguished guests at short notice, the scheduled public opening may be suddenly cancelled; please check the latest Public Opening Schedule before your visit. We will announce a change of the schedule on X as well.
- ● Parking is prohibited near the West Gate. Please do not park buses, taxis, or other vehicles there.
- ● Visitors under the influence of alcohol may be refused for reasons of the facility’s protection.
